Dr Emma Burgess
Emma has come to work as the primary dentist for the BDS team. Emma graduated from the University of Birmingham and has over 20 years experience.
Her extensive experience in patient care is reflected in her calm, amiable and gentle chair-side manner. Whilst having a preventative focus, Emma excels in all areas of dentistry, including oral surgery and endodontics.
Emma’s commitment to quality patient care also entails keeping up-to-date with advances in dentistry and she is a regular attendee at lectures and courses.
Emma is passionate about cooking! She makes amazing gingerbread houses which have even claimed prizes at the Royal Show.
You'll find Emma's easy going and relaxed nature puts you at ease very quickly.
Shayni is one of our qualified and experienced dental assistants. She brightens everyone’s day with her loud and bubbly laugh often heard echoing around the studio. Graduating from Tatachilla, Shayni has always lived and worked locally.
Shayni enjoys her fitness and often spends her weekends going on long adventurous walks and cooking up healthy treats (which we often benefit from at work much to our delight!)
Due to Shayni’s enthusiasm in her job, we are currently expanding her skillset to include an even larger variety of tasks. We love watching her continued growth and zest for life.
Dental Therapist & Dental Hygienist
Amy is our primary dental hygieinist and dental therapist. She graduated from the University of Adelaide and has worked in the Southern area since.
Amy lives locally in Port Noarlunga along with her husband and 4 children. They enjoy keeping fit, the beach lifestyle, cooking and supporting the local community.
Amy's main focus is on prevention. She sees patients of all ages and takes care of their simple dental treatment needs. Her pro-active approach ensures the least invasive and most comfortable dental treatment possible.
Amy aims to become involved in a humanitarian program with the BDS staff in the next few years which will involve their travel to lower socio-economic countries and the provision of aid to underprivelaged children.
Amy works every day but now does a combination of business management roles and clinic time.
Oral Health Therapist (BOH)
Casey is a dental hygienist as well as a dental therapist. She completed her Bachelor of Oral Health degree from the University of Adelaide.
Casey embraces our children’s program here at BDS and like Amy, she also aims at making a child’s first dental experience as fun as possible and a positive one to remember. Her experience in children’s practice makes the visits as easy, and as relaxed possible with her calm, gentle nature making children feel at ease.
Casey has also got experience in specialist periodontal practices and is very interested in the prevention and management of gum and jaw-bone disease for children and adults.
Casey has a bubbly personality and you will often hear her chatting and laughing from down the hall.
Melissa joined the BDS team last year and brings with her a wealth of experience having worked in the Australian forces all over Australia as a Dental Assistant.
She is a qualified and well experienced dental assistant. Mel loves family times and is enjoying being settled back in South Australia.
Mel loves chatting to our patients and her warmth helps any one who is feeling tense about their visit to the dentist feel instantly at ease. You often hear Mels laugh echoing down the hallways of BDS which is always a welcomed sound.
Clinical Manager/ Dental Nurse
Dr Vivien Chai
Vivien graduated from the Adelaide University in 2010. She has gained invaluable experience from working in rural and remote areas of South Australia. Prior to joining the BDS team, she served the Port Augusta community, as well as a range of communities from nearby mining towns. Before that, she has also worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service based in Broken Hill.
Vivien's best interest is the quality of dental care she provides her patients with. She believes that the relationship between the dentist and patient is vital to successful treatment and strives to make sure her patients receive all the treatment options and the best possible care. She is a friendly and open person and enjoys working with the BDS team to create a friendly environment for everyone.
Apart from dentistry, Vivien is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club. She also enjoys spending time playing her huge collection of video games and catching up on her favourite television shows.
Vivien works on Saturdays as well as all week days.
Oral Health Therapist (BOH)
Sara completed the Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Adelaide in 2007. She shares Amy and Casey’s role as a dental hygienist and dental therapist (now known in a broader title as “Oral Health Therapist”).
Sara joined the BDS team in 2015 and is excited to be a part of the “BDS family” who are welcoming, compassionate, happy to do their job and where everyone is treated equally.
With two young children, Sara lives a busy life on top of working part-time on Mondays, Thursday afternoons and evenings and some Saturdays.
A caring nature is one of Saras strong points, she likes to make children and adults feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible during their dental visits, on occasion she may even have oils burning in her room so you don't get that 'dentist smell'! She is passionate about helping people maintain good oral health and nutrition which is so strongly linked with general health and well being.
Sara loves yoga, beach walks/swims, being out in nature and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr David Munro
Dr David Munro has had over 30 years clinical experience. Most of this time he ran his own busy practice, apart from a year in Papua New Guinea where he conducted bush dentistry in some villages.
He recently sold his practice and Joined the Beachside team for a change of pace.
He is experienced in all areas of dentistry. He believes in treating all patients with respect and tries to provide each person with the level of care they wish to receive.
He has what is known as a minimal intervention approach to treatment, which means he aims to minimise the amount of work to only what is necessary to keep your teeth in good condition.
Steph is our "Dental Extraodinaire" as we like to call her and our Clinical and Dental Assistant Co-ordinator. She has been in the dental industry for many years and has various roles at BDS. Steph is the Senior Dental Assistant and coordinates our staffing. However, you may also find her at our reception area on occasion. Her lovely personality has a never ending habit of putting people at ease.
In Stephs spare time, she is a neverending socialite who loves spending time with friends and family. She has some baking recipes that have become BDS tradition at every shared lunch. Steph enjoys overseas travel and has recently had a visit to the USA.
Shai recently joined the BDS team full time with her new qualifications as a dental nurse.
She has discovered a passion for her new career and is excelling more and more every day!
Shai enjoys spending her spare time with friends and family, listening to music and going on adventures with her partner and dog.
She loves working with children and hopes to further her skills in the future. Her cheerful and friendly personality is sure to make you feel very welcome and comfortable.
Front desk administrator
Danni is one of our part time receptionists here at BDS. She has lived and worked locally for many years. Her smooth efficiency and exceptional patient care and empathy makes her fantastic as your first point of contact on our front desk. She is in charge of our Facebook page as well as our school holiday kids competitions (keep a close eye out for them).
She is the mother of two beautiful young boys and a beloved spaniel named Benny. Danni enjoys fitness and the pursuit of elusive spare time which would be filled with family and friends, binge-watching TV and food, glorious food.
Danni has a vibrant personality and will be sure to serve you with a genuine smile.
